In the spring 2018, Tuupala School was completed in Kuhmo, Finland. It is the first school in Finland made of solid wood CLT elements. The framework of the three-part school is built out of Crosslam’s CLT. The building required manufacturing of over 4300 m2 of CLT-board. Board thickness varied from 60 mm to 260 mm.
The construction on the site in Tuupala took place inside massive tents that protected the materials from the weather. The most important goal for the project was to build a safe and healthy learning environment for children. The school has room for 450 primary and pre-school pupils and their teachers.
Tuupala School has been awarded two major Finnish construction awards: Best Building Act in Northern Finland in 2017 and the 2018 Wood Award.
